The Zoning By-Law amendment proposal from Mattamy Homes at 1837 and 1849 Maple Grove Road will go to Planning Committee on June 23.

The application would rezone the properties to permit Mattamy’s construction of 90 townhomes on four private streets with access to Maple Grove Road. The two existing heritage buildings on the site—the Patrick Hartin House and the “stone cottage”—will be retained for future commercial and residential use, respectively. You can read more about the proposal on the City’s development application site.

Here are the official comments I provided in the staff report:

“I am very pleased to see plans for adaptive reuse of Patrick Hartin House and the stone cottage as part of the subdivision on this site. I encourage the applicant to seek formal Part IV heritage designation for the stone buildings in the future.”

The City hosted a virtual public meeting for this proposal last spring, and our office hosted a pre-construction meeting for the adjacent community in April.

The Planning Committee meeting begins at 9:30 am and can be watched on Council’s YouTube page. If Planning Committee follows staff recommendation to approve the application, it will rise to Council for final approval on July 6, 2022.
