Library Service Highlight: Employment Support

Are you looking for work? Unemployed or underemployed?
Drop-in to meet one-on-one with an Employment Counsellor from the Pinecrest-Queensway Employment Services team. This service is available once a month at the Stittsville Branch in the small tutorial room. This is a drop-in service and registration is not required.

Stittsville Seniors’ Social at the Stittsville Branch

Join us at the library for a delightful afternoon of camaraderie and creativity at our Stittsville Seniors’ Social. This program offers a welcoming environment where seniors can engage in board games, playing cards, and crafts, fostering both fun and friendship. This program runs on the last Thursday of every month – the next session will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2025, from 2:00-4:00pm.

Activities Include:

  • Board Games: Rediscover classic board games such as Scrabble, Chess, and Monopoly, or explore new favorites with fellow participants.
  • Playing Cards: Whether you enjoy Bridge, Poker, or simply a friendly game of Go Fish, there is a deck waiting for you.
  • Crafts: Unleash your creativity with various crafting activities. From simple projects like card making to more intricate endeavors, our crafting corner offers something for every skill level.
  • Onsite Tech Support: Basic tech support for mobile devices and mobile apps. Learn how to borrow eBooks, audiobooks and more.
  • Additional Information: Light refreshments will be provided. This program is free and open to all seniors in the community. Registration is not required. Come join the fun!

Saturday, January 18, 2025 – 11:15am – 12:15pm
Learn how Canadian author, Barbara Reid, uses modeling clay to create the illustrations in her books. Materials will be provided for you to create your own illustrations. We will be showing a pre-recorded video in English, where Barbara Reid will give a demonstration on how to make clay creations. There will also be other activities available to celebrate Family Literacy Day! Family program. Drop-in.

SCWG presents Welcome to Writing – Comedy Tutorial
Saturday, January 18, 2025 – 1:30-3:00pm
An experienced, and funny, member of the SCWG will present different aspects of comedy writing in an interactive discussion. Topics will include:
The Rule of Nine, and its extraordinary benefits; Comic conflict and how to use it; Avoiding cliche; The Comedy Toolbox, and six of its tools, and How characters and perspective can be used. No previous writing experience is necessary, but participants should have an open mind and be ready to laugh.

Do you love to cook? Connect with other food enthusiasts and level up your cooking skills over great discussions. We will look at new and popular cookbooks together and share recipes that we have tried. In this session, we will be discussing soups and stews.
