As many residents are aware, waste pick-up problems continue in Stittsville, Kanata and West-Carleton.  For the past couple of months, many streets – and sometimes entire neighbourhoods – have seen delays.

This is not the level of service that the City or residents expect. Thank you to residents for your patience while these issues get resolved.  I I am as frustrated as you are about this situation.

I also want to thank waste collection workers with the contractor and with the City of Ottawa.  The workers on the front line have been working long hours on hot days to complete the collections.

What’s being done?
City staff is working with the contractor to ensure they meet service standards. The contractor is bringing in additional trucks, mechanics, drivers, and logistics people to help meet the current demand.

The City is taking action to enforce the terms of the contract and any applicable penalties provisions, and is addressing the issue in accordance with the performance management measures of the contract administration policy.

What’s next?
There will likely be more delays to pick-up in the coming weeks.  My team will provide updates about missed streets through Twitter and Facebook. If your pick-up is missed, leave it at the curb the next day and trucks will be around to pick it up.  If your pick-up is delayed more than a day, please call 3-1-1.
